1. Is the route the same as in past years?
Yes, the route is the same as in past years (see the route map). We will have plenty of signs acknowledging our generous sponsors and directing you along the route. There will also be volunteers at the major turns. In general, you stay on the left side of the street, facing traffic and following the signs.
2. I plan to walk and do not care about my time. Why register?
Registration for the R4R is one of the lowest cost charitable 5K events you will find anywhere. And you will receive a great t-shirt and drawstring bag. We also want to have a strong showing of participants to show our sponsors our appreciation. Sponsors will be happy to know that there is wide-spread community support for the event and that their sponsorship dollars are well-spent so the more people who register, the more it helps us to secure sponsorships in the future. It also shows community spirit and support for our small business sponsors.
3. Will medals be awarded?
Fifty-six medals will be awarded. Medals will be given to the fastest overall male and female runners, and to the top three finishers, male and female, in each of these age groups:
Medals will also be awarded to ruckers. This year there will be a single rucking category.
4. Rucking? What's rucking?!
Ruckers walk while wear weighted vests or carry weights in a backpack. The weight can be plates, a sandbag, water bottles, or anything else you can think of. This provides a challenging workout that is low impact on the joints. Please see the weight guidelines above when preparing for the race.
5. How will I be timed?
As with most races, your bib is your timer. By registering, you are reserving a bib for yourself (as well as the great shirt and drawstring bag we've designed this year). Times will automatically be accrued in the race tracking system so the race committee can determine winners.
6. Will there be water, refreshments, bathrooms, or support personnel available?
Yes! Refreshments will be provided in the pavilion at the end of the race. Water will be provided along the route. Porta-potties are available at the Rec as well. Volunteers will be on site at the Rec and throughout the course for assistance.
7. Is parking available? Will the gate to the Rec be open?
The gate to the Rec will be open at 8am. Volunteers will be available to direct you when parking. If driving to the Rec, we will ask that you follow signs to park near the basketball court. We ask that you drive slowly and cautiously when arriving and leaving the event since there will be more foot traffic than usual in the neighborhood.
8. When/where do I pick-up my race packet?
Race packets can be picked up at the Rec:
5 - 7pm on Friday, May 30th
10am - noon on Saturday, May 31st
If you are not able to pick your bib, shirt, and bag before race day, you can also pick it up the morning of the event. However, we strongly encourage you to pick-up on Friday or Saturday.
9. My child wants to participate but I am concerned for their safety and I cannot keep up with them.
Any time a child is playing, running, or walking in the street, they should be properly supervised. You should arrange for proper supervision to ensure the safety of your own children.
10. How can I sponsor the Run for the Rec?
Thank you for your interest! Sponsorships allow us to maintain and improve the Rec for the public to use. Sponsorships must be received by April 25, 2025. Information about sponsorships can be found on the sponsorship page.
11. How is the money raised used?
Currently, we plan to plant additional native trees to beautify the park and add more privacy to our neighbors. We also set aside a portion of each year's donations to replace the playground in the next decade, which will cost over $100,000. Past Run for the Rec funds have allowed us to resurface the basketball course, repair the baseball field fence and upgrade the playground equipment before it posed safety risks. Sponsors are acknowledged along the course. As you participate and see these signs, please notice the names of the sponsors and, in return, support them when you can.
12. Color run? What's a color run?!
Color powder will be sprayed throughout the race, leaving you a rainbow by the end of the race. See tips below to make it a fun time for all:
The color powder is made with 100% food-grade cornstarch, baking soda, and FD&C approved food and cosmetic dyes. The color powder is completely safe, non-toxic and environmentally-friendly.
The color powder easily washes out of most fabrics, skin and hair using only soap and water, but we still recommend leaving those fancy shoes and clothes at home. Easily remove from grass and concrete with a leaf blower or water.
3. Use Lotion- Apply coconut oil or lotion to your skin and hair beforehand—this makes it easier to wash off the powder afterward.
4. Bring Towels and Wet Wipes- You’ll want to wipe off before getting in your car post-run.
1. Shake It Off - Before you get in the car, shake out your clothes and hair as much as possible.
2. Use a Towel on Your Car Seat - Your car will thank you. Even with shaking off, you'll be dusty.
3. Take Photos Before Showering - You’ll look like a work of art—capture the moment before rinsing it all away.
4. Clean Up Tips - Shake excess color from clothing, hair, and body. Wash your hair and body thoroughly, but avoid harsh scrubbing. It might take a couple of washes to get all the color out, especially from light hair. For clothes, machine wash with stain remover. Want to keep the colors in your shirt forever? Try spraying vinegar, ironing then putting your shirt in the dryer: https://www.wholesalecolorpowder.com/save-color-fun-run-race-t-shirt
